Ahhhh….the miracle of Puff Pastry!! I was so impressed with how well this turned out and my husband has even deemed it “one of the best things I’ve ever made!” That’s really saying something, because this took about 5 minutes to put together and it’s only 5 ingredients. Win, Win!! I used calabrese salami from Koch’s General Store; black forest ham would work as well. Koch’s has such a great selection of deli meats and cheeses!
I will be making this as an appetizer for the holidays, but it would also pair nicely with a bowl of soup.

1 package frozen puff pastry, defrosted
2 TBSP Dijon mustard
8 thin slices Calabrese Salami or Black Forest Ham
3/4 C Shredded Gruyere or Swiss Cheese
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water
Directions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or silicone baking mat.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry into a 10-inch square on a floured cutting board.
- Place on baking sheet. Brush with all of the mustard, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Layer the salami or ham over the mustard. Sprinkle with cheese, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Brush border with the egg wash.
- Roll the second piece of puff pastry into a 10-inch square.
- Place directly over the first piece of puff pastry.
- Brush the top with egg wash. Cut a few slits in the top piece of dough to allow steam to escape.
- Chill for 15 minutes.
- Once the pastry is chilled, trim the edges with a sharp knife or pizza wheel.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, turning once while baking.
- Once it’s puffed and brown, it’s done!
- Cool for a couple minutes before slicing.
